If you were to ask most Redskins who’s on their top 5 list for All Time Redskins players it’s safe to say Darrell Green would be on the majority of those lists. One of Green’s most memorable plays during his Redskins career has to be his punt return for a touchdown in the 1987 Divisional Playoffs against the Chicago Bears.
In the most frigid of conditions in Soldier Field, the Braves on the Warpath battled the Monsters of the Midway for a spot in the NFC Championship. When the Redskins were desperate for a play to get back into the game, Green had one of the most spectacular punt returns in NFL history.
Not only did Green’s run help the Redskins defeat the Bears, it became a defining play in Darrell Green’s illustrious Hall of Fame career. That punt return was a culmination of all of Green’s gridiron knowledge & world class speed that proved to be key moment in the Redskins Super Bowl run that season.
